Art Gallery of NSW Learning Programs

🗓 Year-round

What is it?

The Art Gallery of NSW offers both self-guided and facilitated learning experiences that suit homeschooling families and groups, available throughout the year.

Who is it for?

Families of any age group — from young children encountering art for the first time to teenagers studying it seriously.

Beginner friendly?

Yes. You can start entirely self-guided, at your own pace, with no booking and no art background.

What do children usually do?

Children look closely at real artworks, respond to them, and — in facilitated sessions — take part in guided discussion and activities.

What should parents expect?

Expect flexibility: you can simply visit and explore, or book something facilitated when you want more structure. That makes it easy to return again and again as your children grow.

Why Homeschool Link recommends it

Standing in front of a real painting is a completely different experience from seeing it in a book, and it costs very little to give your children. It's one of the easiest ways to build art appreciation into your homeschool.

Why families appreciate it

Families appreciate that it can be as light or as structured as they need on any given day.
